Instructions for Semmelknödel
To prepare the Semmelknödel recipe, please follow these instructions:
Warm the milk up so it is hand warm and mix half of it with 50 g of flour, yeast and sugar. Mix the remaining flour with the egg, the rest of the milk and salt. Stir the two mixtures together. Knead the dough well and let it stand for half an hour in a warm place.
Form dough into two sausages. Roll the sausages into the oiled foil and close the silver paper well in the ends. Boil the rollers in the game boiling water for approximately a quarter of an hour. Turn them on when half the time has elapsed. Roof rollers up, ridding them of the silver paper and cut them into slices.
Tips:
This is the classic, simple dumplings to get served anywhere in Central Europe. Dumplings are a great accessory to any dish with a good sauce. You can vary its dough dumplings by adding different things, for example, butter toasted bread pieces, grated nutmeg, minced parsley or crushed bacon.
